Antonio Ciavarella

Antonio “Tony” Ciavarella, Jr. Antonio “Tony” Ciavarella, Jr., age 85, passed away on June 18, 2018 due to complications from a recent stroke. He was born in Akron on October 5, 1932 to the late Antonio Sr. and Maria (Franco) Ciavarella and lived in Akron most of his life. Tony graduated on June 7, 1950 from North High School. He was on the Cross Country Team and lettered in 1948, the same year North won the City Championship. Tony served on Active Duty in the U.S. Army, Btry C 96th VS BN in Korea, where he was awarded a Korean Service Ribbon with a Bronze Campaign Star, a National Defense Service Medal and a United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1960 as Corporal, ARTY, USAR. Tony retired after 43 years of service from The B.F. Goodrich Co. in Akron. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds and was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association for many years. He was the consummate fan of horse racing and enjoyed fishing and bingo. In addition to his parents; Tony was preceded in death by brothers, Emanuele, Angelo and Nicholas; sister, Babe LoCascio; sisters-in-law, Grace and Nancy Ciavarella; brothers-in-law, Phil LoCascio and Jerry Dalton, Sr.; and nephew, Richard Ciavarella. Tony is survived by sister, Caroline Dalton; sister-in-law, Gloria Ciavarella; numerous nieces and nephews; and cousins. The family would like to thank Richard E. Burke and Diane L. Petrella for all of their support and assistance they gave Tony these last several years. There will be no calling hours or service. He will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio on Thursday, June 28th, at 1:30 p.m.
