Donna Jean Ayers (Brumbaugh)

September 16, 1928 — February 11, 2021

Donna Jean Ayers (Brumbaugh) 1928-2021, passed away on February 11, 2021 and went home to be with the Lord. Born in Greensburg, Ohio, Donna lived for her family. She was the youngest of eight born to Fred and Blonna Brumbaugh (Masters). She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Donna was active in Tyler Garden Club, a Sunday school teacher, a member of The Quilters, belonged to the Eastern Star and Shrine Auxiliary. She was very active at the Greensburg United Methodist Church. She met the love of her life in Jr. High, George. They married in 1949 (honeymooning in Niagara Falls) and she accompanied him to Ohio University and waited for him while he was stationed in Verdun, France during the Korean War. They were lovers of music and church. Donna worked at Brown and Graves Lumber as a secretary and then moved on to Hoover Company. They had three beautiful children and she spent her life caring for them. She enjoyed time in Cape Coral with her husband George and their family. She was always ready for guests with a pu-pu platter served on their lanai overlooking the canal. When the weather was beautiful up north you could find her on Catawba Island enjoying fresh caught Walleye with her family. She loved her home on Portage Lakes and watching the water and boats as they passed. She was the namesake of their pontoon “HMS, DJA.” Donna was always ready to entertain and enjoy time with family and friends. She and George were luckily able to make many trips together and especially enjoyed a cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary with their immediate family. It is an amazing memory for all her family and is still talked about regularly today. She loved shopping trips with her daughters and granddaughter; many fun memories were made in Columbus, New York City and Chicago. She loved watching her grandsons play sports. She was lucky to be able to travel to watch them play wherever the sports moved them, especially to Ohio University in the motorhome. Other great memories include trips to Myrtle Beach in the summers, making new friends on the beach, but never getting her hair wet. She loved her Sundays with her great-grandchildren more recently. Watching them swim and enjoying Sunday dinner with them afterward. She enjoyed many things in life and lived a full one. She will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by her husband, George and son, Edward; she is survived by her two daughters, Christine Thompson (Denny) and Karen (Paul Milinkovich); her beloved grandchildren, Meghan Thompson, Dennis Thompson (Michelle), Nate Wladyczak (Alison), Greg Thompson (Cathryn) and Nick Wladyczak (Katie); and her great-grandchildren; Grace, Andrew, Jiselle, Blaire and Reese; and many other loving relatives and friends who were like family. The family would like to thank Danbury Senior Living in Tallmadge for their wonderful care of mother during these difficult times. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 15th at Greensburg United Methodist Church, 2161 Greensburg Road, Green, Ohio 44232, with Rev. Katherine L. Osier officiating. Friends and family will be received at the church prior to the service on Monday, from 2 to 3 p.m. Please observe masks and social distancing for the safety of all attending.
