Ellen E. Bogard

Ellen E. Bogard, age 82, passed away peacefully February 1, 2017. Born in Akron, Ellen was raised in North Hampton Township. She graduated from North High School. Ellen enjoyed her children, many friends, bowling, and her work at Mobile Meals and RGIS. Ellen became an instant mother of a five year old when she married Dad (Harry) at the age of 21 and sometimes she became a disobedient kid right along with the rest of us! Ellen enjoyed volunteering at First Night Akron and delivering for Mobile Meals. At one time she bowled on three leagues (anything but stay at home). Her children had many funny stories about Mom, only to realize later that her zany actions were actually the beginnings of Dementia. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Harry; parents, Leon and Verna Whalon; sisters, Verna Massa and Lois Lawless; she is survived by daughter, Lori (Bob) Ligon; and sons, Harry (Tillie), Gregory (Donette) and William. Besides her children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Ellen also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Ray; sisters-in-law, Mary, Joy and Francis (Sis); along with many nieces and nephews; her best friend, Brenda (Darrell); and many others who laughed along with her. Friends and family will be received Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) Funeral service will be Monday, 11 a.m., with Rev. Richard Ferris officiating. Burial will follow Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. The family suggests memorials to Mobile Meals, 1063 S. Broadway Street, Akron, Ohio 44311.
