Ivan “Ike” Gillis, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on November 28, 2018.
Born in Akron, he lived in the Ellet area. Ivan graduated from Randolph High School, Goodyear Apprentice School and Goodyear Squadron. He retired from Goodyear after 40 years of service. Ivan was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church and Yusef Khan Grotto. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and enjoyed playing Euchre and watching the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.
He was preceded in death by parents, Willie and Lucille Gillis; brothers and sister-in-law, Glenn (Charlotte), Phillip and David; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred (Charles) and Jeanne (Lester); and sister-in-law, Jackie. Survived by wife, Marilyn of 69 years; daughter, Marla; son, Richard; brothers, Norman and Nick (Mary Helen); sisters-in-law, Joanne and Nancy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating. Visitation at the church prior to the service Monday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Cremation has taken place. Private burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Oak Hill Presbyterian Church.
