Jonathan Kyle Shaffer, 35, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 12, 2016.
Jonathan was born in Akron, Ohio to Gary and Vida Shaffer on May 10, 1980. He attended Ellet High School and graduated in 1998. He went on to join the United States Navy aboard a nuclear submarine and was honorably discharged after nine years of service. He went on to work for Doncasters Precision Casting in Groton, Connecticut for the last six years.
Jonathan was loving. He loved Jesus, his fiancé, his family, his friends, and especially his nephew and niece. He had a heart of gold and he helped anyone and everyone who needed it, anytime, anyplace. He was a tough guy and a mama's boy. He loved his animals, especially their dog, Jackson and cats, Thor and Opie. He was creative, a great piano player, an excellent cook and had a passionate love of music. He loved to joke and be silly and mess with everyone he could. He could always over-embarrass and out-joke anyone! He loved his Mom's cooking and talking sports with his Dad and playing games with family and friends. He loved others and was well-loved in return.
Preceded in death by his Grandma Vida Leaver and his Granddad Kenneth Shaffer; he is survived by his parents, Gary and Vida; fiancé, Caitlin "Kitty" Barker; sister, Shelly (Cory) Kendrick; adored nephew and niece, Colin and Abigail "Abby" Kendrick; Grandma Elizabeth "Betty" Shaffer; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends; and Caitlin's parents, Jacquie and Glenn Barker and family who got to know and love Jonathan as one of their own.
Family and friends are invited to Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home 547 Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44312 for visitation Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor Jonathan Carey will conduct funeral service Friday, 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
