Lois May (Nave) Westfall

Lois May (Nave) Westfall, age 89, passed away August 11, 2016. Born April 10, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, Lois was raised on her family’s farm in Suffield, Ohio. The valedictorian of her high school class, Lois studied pre-med at Mt. Union College for one year until she married her husband, George. She was a member of Arlington Memorial Baptist Church (AMBC) for 48 years and ran the Candy Stripers Hospital Volunteer Program in Bloomington, Illinois. Throughout her life, Lois sang in church choirs from college age until her mid 70’s. She volunteered in the church nursery, sang in a church quartet and played piano for a new storefront church while she lived in Des Moines, Iowa. Lois also taught Sunday School, served on the Deacon Board and helped in the kitchen for Wednesday night church dinners and prayer meetings. She helped decorate for all church parties and holidays, would visit the shut-ins for the church and deliver mobile meals, helped select the church organ and spent a lot of time assembling the bulletins for services at AMBC. Lois helped start Cuyahoga Valley Christian High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and volunteered over 20 years at Akron City Hospital. She also provided financial support to two missionary families and also financially supported a young boy living in Africa through Compassion International. Preceded in death by her husband, George Richard Westfall; son, David Westfall; daughter, Lois May Pivato; grandson, Nicholas Pivato; parents, Charles Randolph and Alta Bell (Growdon) Nave; sisters, Ruth Shotts, Helen McCallister and Mildred Richards; Lois is survived by sons, Dick and Douglas Westfall; daughter, Jeanne Dohner; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Per Lois’ wishes, the family has gathered for a private funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to her church, AMBC, 2330 E. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44312.
