Margaret "Peg" McGurk

Margaret “Peg” McGurk Heaven received a special angel when Margaret “Peg” (Nystrom) McGurk left this world January 26, 2018 surrounded by her loving children. Born January 11, 1923 in Akron, Ohio to Carl and Bessie (Jaquith) Nystrom, she was a lifelong resident of the area. Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William McGurk, and her sister Pauline (Nystrom) Dobbins. She is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Gruccio (Roger); sons, William McGurk (Terri) and Daniel McGurk (Lois); grandchildren, Renee, Becca, Mia, Shannon, Nicole, Jennifer, Emily, Jeremy and Jonathan; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews near and far, and many dear friends and neighbors. Peg graduated from Akron Central High School and later from Hammel Business College. She worked at the Flueger Company for several years before accepting a secretarial position at Goodyear Aerospace where she worked during World War II. The majority of her life was spent raising her three children; volunteering at many of their school functions, including serving many years on the Ellet High School Band Boosters. She was an active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Ellet, serving many years on the bereavement committee and a member of the Council of Catholic Women. In her 70s, she joined the Senior Strutters and danced at mall events and, as she put it, for the “old” people in nursing homes. Peg was the kind of person who loved people. She helped anyone who needed help. She always had a smile in her voice as well as on her face. She lived life in a positive way, never judging people, always trying to build others up. She was a light in the darkness to all who were lost. She loved the Lord and served Him by reaching out to others and being so loving and kind. Her family was the light of her life and meant the world to her. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Maplewood Senior Living of Cuyahoga Falls who treated our mother as they would their own. They all went above the call of duty every day in caring for not just our mother, but all of our family as well. They are angels on earth and we love them all! We also want to express our deep gratitude to the staff of Harbor Light Hospice. They made the entire process so much easier with the loving care of our mother that extended to every family member as well. Their quiet efficiency, knowledge and caring was so welcome at this difficult time. We love each one of them! Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, 2580 Berne Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father Michael Williamson presiding.
