Mary Coppenger

February 12, 1937 — July 11, 2018

Mary Coppenger, 81, was called home on July 11, 2018 after an extended illness. Born in Kingman, Indiana, Mary has resided in Akron where she has been an active member of her church community. She was a 1955 graduate of Hudson High School and a retiree from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 27 years. Mary spent the last 15 years volunteering at the Food Pantry at Arlington Memorial Baptist Church where her presence was cherished and where she touched many lives. She enjoyed people, watching birds and loved cooking for others. Preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Helen (nee Daniels) Heidbrider; and brothers, Robert, Donald, and William Heidbrider. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Jack R. Coppenger. She lives on through her three sons, Jack Coppenger, Jr. (Amber), Jeffrey Coppenger (Jodi), and James Coppenger (Patti). She was a loving gran to her seven grandchildren, Spencer (nee Coppenger) Hurst and husband, Austyn Hurst, Madison (nee Coppenger) Riggs and husband, Bryan Riggs, Taylor Coppenger, Heath Coppenger and fiancée, Courtney Hensel, James Coppenger Jr. and friend, Josselyn Frazier, Bailey Coppenger and friend, Matt Vatina, and Hayleigh Coppenger; along with her great grandchildren, Finn and Max Hurst and Audrey Riggs. Also survived by her sister, Evelyn (nee Heidbrider) Postal; sisters-in-law, Martie (nee Coppenger) Norman, and Yvonne (Blair) Heidbrider; her Aunt Martha Heidbreder, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all of the medical professionals who lovingly cared for Mary. Funeral Service will be Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at Arlington Memorial Baptist Church, 2330 E. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Pastor Dave Bogue officiating. Burial will follow at Atwater Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at the church prior to the service Saturday, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to the Food Pantry at Arlington Memorial Baptist Church.
