William P. "Bill" McGuckin

Bill McGuckin, age 83, passed away on January 13, 2016. Born in Sharon, Pa., Bill spent his childhood in Franklin, Pa. and lived in Youngstown, Ohio and Uniontown, Ohio. Bill graduated from Franklin High School in 1950. He played high school football, basketball and baseball and remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. Bill started his career as a manager for Kroger stores and worked in the grocery industry for Betsy Ross Foods and Peter J. Schmitt Co. and until his retirement. A hard working family man, Bill was known for his wonderful sense of humor and boisterous laugh. He never met a stranger and enjoyed chatting with store clerks and bank tellers. He had a passion for history and enjoyed reading countless books about major historical events. After retirement, he enjoyed doughnut mornings and winter beach walks at the Hacienda Del Sol condo in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Preceded in death by daughter, Jan; father, William; mother, Anne; sisters, Patricia and Sherlee; brothers-in-law, Richard McDowell and Edward (Mary Lou) McDowell; and son-in-law, Mark Weden. Lovingly remembered by his high school sweetheart and love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Marilyn; daughters, Jane Weden and Jodi (Rick) Tully; granddaughter, Caitlin; sister-in-law, Peggy (Pete) Dabrowski; nieces, Lisa (Rob) Lowrey, Debbie Dabrowski, Molly McDowell; nephews, Michael McGuckin, Mark (Lynda) McDowell, Rick McDowell, Steven (Amy) Dabrowski, Gray (Kara) McDowell. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016, 11 a.m. at New Life Episcopal Church, 13118 Church Ave. NW, Uniontown, OH 44685 with Rev. Elizabeth Frank officiating.
