Arthur R. Garfield

April 21, 1938 — February 23, 2024

Uniontown

Arthur R. Garfield, of Uniontown, passed peacefully February 23, 2024, after a short illness at 85 years of age. Art was born and raised in Ashland, Wisconsin, where he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Bitzer. He graduated from Michigan Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Art and Mary Ann married and relocated to Ohio when he was hired at Ohio Edison in 1960. He enjoyed the close friendships he made during his 43 years of employment, eventually retiring from his position of President of First Energy Solutions.

Arthur will be remembered by friends, family, and former coworkers as a kind, courteous, and patient man who lived life with a sense of modesty and quiet dignity. Art subscribed to the principals of fairness, honesty, and integrity, and always respected the opinions of others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ellen Garfield, and his wife, Mary Ann. He is survived by his big sister, Lynette Sorenson, whom he idolized, his children, Melissa and Jayme (Annette), grandchildren, Summer, Willow, Gunnar, Danielle, Erin, Jacob, and Mitchell, and five great grandchildren.

He loved spending time with his adoring family, as well as rooting for his Green Bay Packers. Arthur had a deep appreciation for nature, wildlife, and gardening, and was a ham radio enthusiast (W9VUP). He was an eternal optimist who made a happy wish every night at 11:11. He was also a devoted puppy-pop to his best buddy, his chihuahua Peanut.

He leaves an unfillable void and will be deeply missed by all. A private service and burial have already taken place. Art was a generous and compassionate soul who championed and uplifted anyone in need. Please honor his memory by being kind to others, and contributing to any charity you believe makes the world a more beautiful place.
