Carol Ann Smith

Carol Ann Smith was born May 11, 1949. For the past few years she has faced many health challenges head on. She passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2026. Carol graduated from Lake High School (1967). She worked as a manager at First Merit Bank and went on to retire from Fed Ex Custom Critical in 2014. In her retirement, she enjoyed 10 years of volunteering at the Akron Zoo. She also loved spending time in her backyard tending to her beautiful flowers.

Carol was preceded in death by mother Lillian “June” Baker, father Harold J Baker, favorite aunt, Aunt Dot and beloved dogs Cassie, Lucy and Daisy.

She is survived by husband, Fred, stepchildren Jeff (Karen), and Kristen (Ron), grandchildren Connor, Melina (Grant), and Tori, brother Steve and family, sister Laura and family, special friends Lisa, Debra, and the Cookie Ladies. and her cherished dog Abby.

Fred and Carol were married in 1991 on Fripp Island, SC. They continued to make wonderful memories there over the years during vacations with family and friends. Carol loved Christmas! She enjoyed decorating, sometimes putting up three trees with one dedicated to her special dog ornaments. She was very caring, loving and thoughtful, always remembering to send birthday and anniversary cards to family and friends. In her younger years she loved showing horses.

Calling hours will be Friday, July 17th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with funeral service immediately following at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home at 547 Canton Road, Akron, OH 44312.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Carol’s deep love for animals, please make memorial donations to the Humane Society of Summit County or the Akron Zoo.
