David L. Crandell

David L. Crandell, 91, passed away January 15, 2026.

He was a lifelong resident of Akron, graduating from North High School and The University of Akron with a degree in civil engineering. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers and retired as the Public Utilities Manager of the City of Akron after 46 years. David was an avid local sports fan, never missing a Cleveland Cavaliers or Guardians game. He loved hiking and nature, taking many road trips to national parks.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles David and Molly Crandell. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Crandell; children, James (Bernadette) Crandell, Kathryn Crandell, John (Wendi) Crandell; grandchildren, Jackie (Henry) Parkin, Hannah Crandell, Cara Crandell, Brenna Crandell; great grandchildren, Georgina and Abigail Parkin.

Private family services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Summit County Humane Society (summithumane.org) or The National Parks Conservation Association (ncpa.org).
