Edna Mae Glinsky (née Longstreth) passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2026, at the age of 83.
Born on January 26, 1943, Edna's life was a testament to the beauty of service and the strength of family bonds. Following her graduation from East High School, she attended the University of Akron before beginning her professional career. She spent eight years as an executive secretary at General Tire & Rubber Company, where her sharp intellect and professional skills were appreciated. However, Edna’s heart always belonged to her home. She transitioned from the corporate world to become a dedicated stay-at-home mother, pouring her energy into raising her children and creating a foundation of love that would last for generations. In 1991, she returned to the workforce, serving as an executive secretary for the Summit County Court of Common Pleas until her well-earned retirement on February 1, 2005.
Edna’s faith and compassion extended deep into her community. She was a devoted member of the Ladies Guild at Nativity Catholic Church for many years. In her retirement, she found great joy and purpose as a "cuddler" in the NICU at Akron Children’s Hospital, providing comfort to the smallest and most vulnerable members of our community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Clara Longstreth, and her siblings: Helen, James, John, Ralph, Fred, Dorothy, Marian, and Cletus. Her legacy of love continues through her surviving siblings, Marie and Robert, and her devoted husband of 60 years, Raymond Glinsky. She was the cherished mother of LeAnn (Mark) Backer, Dina (James) Popa, and Raymond Daniel Glinsky. Her spirit lives on in her grandchildren: Jenna (Blake) Berryhill, Christian Backer (Brittney), Andrew Popa (Sophia), Karlie (Derrick) Sowers, William Popa (Elizabeth), and Megan Glinsky; and her precious great-granddaughter, Lucy Berryhill.
Edna loved spending time with her family on Hilton Head Island, playing Scrabble with her life-long friend, Judy, and spending countless hours at the lake house with her grandchildren. Edna was known for her kindness and a generosity that touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed, but her warmth will be felt forever by those lucky enough to have known her.
Friends and family may call on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, located at 3553 Northdale Street NW, Uniontown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Nativity Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Road, Akron. On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Edna will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with a private prayer service for her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to the Akron Children’s Hospital NICU ( give.akronchildrens.org ) or to Summa Health Hospice (141 N. Forge Street, Akron, OH 44304) for their compassionate support. Your generosity in her memory would be a beautiful tribute to the kindness and care she shared with so many throughout her life.
