Edward R. Carson

Edward Robert Carson, age 87, of Akron, died at home on October 14, 2022.

Born in Yale, Michigan on June 12, 1935, the son of the late Robert and Rita Carson.

Preceded in death by siblings Kenneth, Betty and Leo, nieces Michelle and Tabitha, and nephew Robert.

Survived by wife of 63 years, Patricia (Spellman), children Dennis (Rhonda), Mike (Sonja), Tim, Steve, Eileen (Jason) Hostetler, Carol (Jed) Sawmiller; grandchildren Nathan (Kelly), Jeremy (Mary Ann), Mitchell, Lucas, Derek (Tricia), Scott (Gi Yoon), Jennifer, Nick and Ben Sawmiller; great-grandchildren Pierce, Oliver, Miles and Katie Grace, brother-in-law Thom (Jean) Spellman, sister-in-law Sandy and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ed was an engineering graduate of the University of Michigan with a master’s degree from the University of Akron. He worked at Goodyear Aerospace for 33 years and was actively involved in Nativity Church. Ed was always ready to lend a helping hand and took pleasure in watching Michigan football, especially at the family UM/OSU party, weekend getaways with the grandkids, doing yardwork, and traveling. He enjoyed Euchre, Pinochle, Bridge, bowling, baseball, and slow pitch softball (retiring when his glove was older than his teammates). He loved to attend his childrens’ and grandchildrens’ sporting events and was always excited to help his children, their friends, and the neighborhood kids with math homework.

Friends and family will be received Friday, October 28th, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hopkins Lawver UNIONTOWN Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Avenue), Uniontown, Ohio 44685. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 29^th at 11 a.m. at Nativity of The Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd. Akron, OH 44312. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nativity of The Lord Jesus Catholic Church.
