George Adam Pounders, 63, passed away May 29, 2012.
Born in Akron, he lived in Sawyerwood all of his life, and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
George served as Dog Warden for the Tallmadge Police Department, and volunteered for the Springfield Township Fire Department. He was a founding member of Fathers of the Flag, and was very involved with different veterans’ organizations.
Preceded in death by father, Braxton, Sr. and mother, Emily; brothers, Braxton, Jr. and Hugh; and sister, Francis Amuso, he is survived by sisters, Elva Pounders and Marilyn Cunningham; many nieces, nephews, special friends and family.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, 5 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44312, where friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 6 p.m. at the Springfield Senior Center, 2491 Canfield Rd., Akron, OH 44312. Friends are requested to wear casual attire, and are welcome to bring a pot luck dish to share if desired. Memorials may be made to the Springfield Township Veterans Memorial, 2459 Canfield Rd., Akron, OH 44312.
