Glenn T. Smith

Glenn T. Smith, 91, passed away March 25, 2012.

Born in Creston, Ohio, Mr. Smith graduated from Creston High School, Wooster Business College and the University of Akron. He was a resident of Uniontown since 1948, and was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, Glenn retired from The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 38 years of service, and also worked at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home after his retirement. He was a retired Lt. Colonel of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, serving for 29 years. During World War II he was a Bombardier on a B-24 Liberator Bomber in the 15th Air Force. On his 29th combat mission over Munich, Germany on June 13, 1944, his plane was shot down and he became a Prisoner of War for 13 months, and was liberated by Patton 's Army.

Preceded in death by his wife, Daisy M. in 1990; son, Glenn R. II in 2033; brothers, Jay and Kenneth; and sisters, Edith, Janet and Carole; he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Kim A. and Kathy of Tallmadge, Gary D. and Janet of Green; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ray Spivey of Massillon; grandchildren, Holly, Glenn III, Melanie, Patrick, Sarah, Eric and Art; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Advent Lutheran Church, 1516 Edison St. NW, Uniontown, Ohio 44685, with Pastor Bob Cheyney Jr. officiating.  Burial will take place at Uniontown Greenlawn Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by members of the Air Force.  Friends may call at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale St., UNIONTOWN 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, where Mogadore VFW Post 8487 will stand as Honor Guards.  Friends may also call at the church from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
