Born in the Free City of Danzig on August 16, 1935, Ingrid Marianne Hannelore Rothenbuecher (née Weiding) lived a life defined by resilience, strength, and unwavering love for her family. She passed away peacefully at her home on July 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy that will live on in all who knew and loved her.

Ingrid was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Franz and Lotte Weiding, and her little sister, Renate, who tragically passed away at the age of four during World War II.

Growing up amid the devastation of the war, Ingrid experienced hardships few could imagine. The loss of her young sister was a heartbreak she carried throughout her life. In 1951, she fled East Germany with her cherished parents, and in 1953, they immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in search of a brighter future. She built a new life in Detroit, where she worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Manufacturer’s Bank. After marrying, her life's journey took her to New Jersey, Italy, West Germany, and ultimately to the Akron/Uniontown, Ohio area, where she made her home.

Ingrid embraced life with grace, joy, and determination. An accomplished ballroom dancer, she won multiple awards for the tango. She was also a poet, sharing poems that were cherished particularly by her children. She enjoyed traveling, often taking trips with the Uniontown Lions Club, listening to Elvis, volunteering at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, E.J. Thomas Hall, the International Institute of Akron, and serving as an election volunteer, singing at her German Club, lunching with her friends, and watching General Hospital, Fox News, and The Golden Girls. When her children were young, she was also actively involved in the PTA and participated in many school activities, always supporting their education and interests. A commissioned notary public, she was also a trusted German translator for friends, neighbors, and others in the community, generously helping those who needed assistance with documents, language, and everyday matters. In recognition of her dedication to others, she received awards for her volunteer service at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens and the International Institute of Akron.

Those fortunate enough to know Ingrid will always remember her radiant smile, which could light up a room. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and loved. She laughed wholeheartedly at even the corniest jokes, the kind of laughter only a mother and grandmother can share. Her generosity knew no bounds, her kindness touched countless lives, and her devotion to her family was immeasurable. She was truly loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Linda Gemind (Edward) and Gina Herdegen (Nick), and her son, Alan Rothenbuecher (Robin). She was a proud and devoted Omi to Sara Gemind, Anna Gemind (fiancé Blake), Natalie Schulte (Alex), Tristian Rothenbuecher (Emily), Griffin Herdegen, and Ian Herdegen. Her grandchildren were among her greatest joys, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Known simply as Omi to most, Ingrid was the heart of her family. Though she endured tremendous hardship throughout her life, she never allowed it to define her. Instead, she chose love over bitterness, generosity over selfishness, and joy over despair. Her strength, compassion, and enduring spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Our hearts are broken, but we are forever grateful for the love, strength, and countless memories she gave us. We take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on in each of us, and we look forward to the day when we will once again embrace her.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
