Janet A. "Nickie" Sovak

December 5, 1942 — January 30, 2024

Uniontown

Nickie passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior at home on January 30th, 2024 due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Nickie was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Julia Fitt, brother Roger Fitt and sister, Carol Baker. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, George, sons Eric (Bonnie) Sovak, Brian (Kathy) Sovak and daughter Jill (David) Walker. She was Grandma Nick to Summer and Clay Sovak and Ya-Ya to Drew and Nate Walker. She is also survived by brother Jerry Fitt and sister Judy (Tony) Formisano Piekarski.

She was born in Galveston, TX on December 5, 1942. She was a graduate of Mogadore High School, where she was an all-Portage County cheerleader. She was employed at Firestone T &R Company where she met and married her husband. After staying home to raise her 3 children, she served at the Chapel in Akron for over 20 years as Director of special events and office manager. She enjoyed leading and attending women’s Bible Studies and teaching children’s Sunday School. Serving at Camp Carl in the last few years of her retirement was a great joy to her. Camp always held a special place in her heart. She loved all the people she worked and worshiped with. She enjoyed vacationing with the family, we have many wonderful memories of Hilton Head with all the sun, golf and shopping. She also loved to visit Disney World and it was always her dream to have a job of being Minnie Mouse. In her prime she was an excellent bowler, tennis player and golfer and enjoyed watching or playing most sports.

The family is grateful for all the prayers and support from friends and loved ones and the teams at Cleveland Clinic Hospice, Direction Home and Home Helpers. We would also like to extend a special thanks to Sarah Vaughan for the love you have shown our family during this time of need, we are grateful for all that you have done. We will miss moms sparkling eyes, loving heart and fun spirit.

The family will receive guests on February 8th from 4-6 pm at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron OH 44312.
