Janice Eileen (Kimmel) Moore

Janice Moore Dwenger

Jan went home into God’s care on August 16, 2026 to join her husband Glenn Moore, Sr., parents Lyle V. and Hazel Kimmel and brother Lyle D. Kimmel. She succumbed to the ravages of dementia at the Aultman Compassion Care Center Inpatient Hospice at the age of 87.

Jan loved kids and, after graduating from Green High School in 1957, she went to Kent State to obtain her Cadet rating to go into the classroom after two years. She concentrated on Reading, She was not permitted to sign a contract to teach when she became pregnant so she raised her sons, Glenn, Jr. and Greg, while obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Kent State in 1970. She was at Kent State to learn on that fateful date, May 4, 1970, when the shooting broke out, but was not harmed. Later, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from The University of Akron in 1984.

When the boys were in school, Jan went back to teaching at the Lake Local Schools. Most of that was as a Reading Tutor. However, her last 8 years there were teaching 4th Grade. As those 4th grade kids got to graduation age, the top 25 students would select their favorite teacher. Jan was selected 3 times in years 2000, 2001 and 2003 by kids from those 8 years. She was also a finalist as Teacher of the Year as conducted by the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce in 1993 and was nominated as Ohio Teacher of the Year in 1994.

Camping vacations were the norm. Glenn and the boys would fish and Jan would stay back to read, relax and cook. Other camping times were spent traveling to see the country.

She loved her 1957 high school classmates who would get together each month at a restaurant to keep in touch with each other. She loved to regale them with the poetry she would write about those high school years and times.

Jan considered herself a foodie and was an excellent cook. She also volunteered at Lake Township FISH for over 25 years. In 2025, Lake Township FISH gave her a plaque thanking her for her years of service there. In 2020, she also received an award from the Direction Home Akron-Canton Area Agency on Aging & Disabilities for her work at FISH after attaining the age of 80 by being installed in the Senior Citizens’ Hall of Fame.

After the loss of her husband, Glenn, and her good friend Brenda, Tom’s wife, in 2003, within the space of 1 month, she and Tom Dwenger married in 2005. Glenn and Tom had worked together for many years in Aircraft Tire Development at Goodyear and both families lived on the same street in Uniontown for 4 years.

Jan leaves a blended family to mourn: sons Glenn, Jr. (Rose) Moore, Greg (Lisa) Moore, sisters Vonnie (George) Kolbenschlag, Elaine Slaybaugh, Karen (Dan Cavlina) Kindel, her treasured intelligent beautiful granddaughters Lauren (Adam) Karapandzich, Brittany (Kyle) Close, Sydney and Mackenzie Moore, and step granddaughters Alexandra (Travis) Geahlen and Madeline Milano, and 2 step great grandchildren, Adelynn and Grayson Geahlen. Added to the blend is stepson Kevin (Jennie) Dwenger, step grandchildren Tad (Alyssa) Moskwa, Trey McHugh, Laurn McHugh and Jacob Dwenger. Step great grandchildren are Damian Moskwa and Ivyanna. Losses include daughter-in-law Kelleen Moore and step daughter-in-law Kelly McHugh, and brother-in-law Chuck Slaybaugh.
