Jerry J. Scott, age 76, of Akron, Ohio passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 with his loving wife of 51 years by his side.
He was born October 23, 1942 to the late Howard and Mabel Scott in Ray, Ohio. Jerry graduated from Allensville High School in 1960. After high school, Jerry joined the U.S. Army serving for three years and stationed in Korea for part of that time. He worked for B.F. Goodrich in tire development for 29 years. Jerry faithfully donated many gallons of blood over the years to the American Red Cross in both Ohio and Florida.
Jerry retired at a young age and he and Linda spent time traveling and wintering in Florida for many years. He enjoyed playing basketball, gardening, biking, and lending a helping hand to all. Jerry had many friends and always did for others before himself. He enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews, and teaching them how to ride bikes and tie shoes. The greatest joy in Jerry’s life was his two grandsons.
Preceded in death by his siblings, Howard Scott Jr., Betty Dixon, Michael, and Ralph Scott. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; loving daughter, Suzanne Burkett; grandsons, Alex and Adam Burkett; brothers, Harold (Nola Kay) Scott, Neil (Cindy) Scott, Curt (Nola) Scott; sisters, Margie Atwood, Anne (Robert) Molihan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jerry’s family would like to thank the staff at Crossroads Hospice and The Inn at Whitewood Village for their loving care and support during his final journey.
Friends and family will be received Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 12 (noon) to 1 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312, where a memorial service will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastors Darrell Frazier and Ed Morrison officiating. Cremation has taken place. A private burial will take place at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 70 West Streetsboro Street, Suite 201, Hudson, Ohio 44236.
