Kevin McFarren (born May 15th, 1956) played his final round on May 18th, 2024.
A 1974 graduate of Springfield High School and a lifelong journeyman machinist, Kevin celebrated several notable contributions to his field, collaborating on parts used in NASA’s Space Shuttle Program and the Large Hadron Super Collider. He happily retired in 2021.
Kevin enjoyed the retired life; spending it golfing, relaxing and laughing with friends and family (especially spending time playing with his grandchildren), perfecting his lush yard, working on his “honey-do” projects (which often resulted in him reminding his wife that he was retired), but also loving and treating his wife like a princess constantly. He loved and cared for his little pup, Cinders, and traveled to Florida and North Carolina whenever possible. Kevin was always the person who stepped up to help friends whenever they needed it.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ted McFarren, mother Jeanne McFarren, brother David Gowin, and sister Susan Watters.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Terri McFarren; twin brother, Keith McFarren; daughters, Leigha (Ryan) Finnemore, and Lauren (Michael) Mulqueen; grandchildren, Gracie Schillinger and Patrick Mulqueen; and mother in law, Patricia (James) Clapp of Florida. Kevin had numerous nieces and nephews, including Dave Gowin and Scotty Gowin of New Hampshire, Jimmy Watters, Cheri (Tom) Kelly, Russell (Katie) Becker of Kansas, and his golf buddy and nephew Dave (Nichole) Watters.
Kevin cherished his friendships and we know he is at peace and having a great time with his best friend Tom Holmes, playing pool and listening to his favorite music.
The tee time for Kevin’s Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, July 6th, 2024 at 5:00 PM at Sunny Hills Golf Course, 3734 Sunnybrook Road, Kent, Ohio 44240. All who have a great story to share or a memory to enjoy to remember Kevin are welcome, especially if it brings some laughs. If unable to attend, please turn on some of his favorite music and turn it up as loud as possible so he can sing along. We will all get by with a little help from our friends.
“Ticking away the moments to make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then, one day, you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun
And you run and you run
To catch up to the sun
But it’s sinking
Racing around
To come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you’re older
Shorter of breath
And one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught
Or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone
The song is over
Thought I’d something more to say
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away
Across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells”
