Pastor Larry Peter Grahn, 84, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at his home in Uniontown, Ohio. A devoted minister and cherished family man, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and joyful curiosity.
Born on May 27, 1941, in Rockford, Illinois, Pastor Grahn dedicated his life to ministry and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Over the course of 46 years in pastoral service, he shepherded congregations across New York, Wisconsin, and Ohio. His commitment to spiritual leadership was evident not only in his sermons but also in his daily interactions with those around him.
A passionate advocate for Adventist education, Pastor Grahn made it a priority to visit local Adventist schools regularly to lead worship with students. His presence brought warmth and inspiration to young hearts and minds. He also found great fulfillment in participating in mission trips and supporting Pathfinders — an organization close to his heart that nurtures youth through service and adventure.
Pastor Grahn’s enthusiasm extended beyond the pulpit. He was an avid amateur radio operator who delighted in connecting with others across the airwaves. He found joy riding his trike through town or along quiet paths, often accompanied by a sense of wonder for the world around him. His hobbies reflected his inquisitive spirit: Sabbath walks and bird watching, solving puzzles, tending gardens, and immersing himself in the mechanics and histories of trains, planes, and tractors.
Above all else, Pastor Grahn treasured his family. He shared nearly 61 years of marriage with his beloved wife Carolyn Grahn. Together they raised three children: daughters Lauri Grahn and Heidi Samardzic (Dejan), and son Loren Grahn. He took immense pride in his grandsons Luka, Petar, and Mihailo Samardzic. His love extended to many other members of his extended family who were touched by his kindness and steady presence.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire lives rooted in faith, compassion, and joyful discovery. A Memorial Service will be held on June 28, 2025, at 04:30 PM at the Akron First Seventh-day Adventist Church, 655 E. Waterloo Road, Akron, Ohio 44306. There will be a visitation time one hour prior to the service, beginning at 3:30 PM.
