Lawrence A. "Larry" Davis

Lawrence A. "Larry" Davis, 65, passed away March 6, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Albany, Ohio, he lived in the Akron area most of his life. Larry served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, earning several accommodations, including the Silver Star Award for his heroic, meritorious actions as a rifleman during a combat operation in March of 1967.

Larry was employed as an electronic technician with Mitchell Communications, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League, known as "WB8VPC", and had hundreds of friends across the country that served as a support group and life line to him during his illness.

Preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas and Minnie Davis; brother, George Thomas Davis; sister, Loraine Davis Howard; and brother-in-law, Scotty Howard; he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gwynn D.; son, Timmy Ray Morgan of Beaufort, N.C.; daughter, Kelly J. (David) Rorrer of Barberton; grandchildren, Allyson Rorrer, Travis Morgan and Kayla Rorrer; brother, Merle (Mary Alice) Davis of Akron; sister-in-law, Connie Davis of Lakeland, Fla; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry's family wishes to thank his hospice nurse, Patty from Visiting Nurse Service, who was his guardian angel.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, 12 noon, at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312, with Rev. Jeral Davis officiating. Private burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.mn. until the service time on Saturday.
