Louise J. Gordon, age 83, passed away after a long illness on October 16, 2025.
She was born in Steubenville to Clifford Dean and Lorraine Foraker, and lived in the Akron area. She graduated from Kent State University, and taught elementary school for several years before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities, from teaching Sunday school to making music in the choir, band, and bell choir. She also played the saxophone in the Stan Hywet Goodyear concert band for over 40 years and sang with the B.J. Singers. She loved to garden, sew, read, and try new dessert recipes.
Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gordon, she is survived by her daughters, Elaine Raber and Joyce (Dragan) Gordon-Shapkaliska; grandsons Grant (Allyson) Raber, Bryce Raber, Evan Raber, and Dean Shapkaliski; great-granddaughters Selah Raber and Siena Raber; brother, Carl (Jean) Foraker; and sister Irene Saho.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 21st, 12:45 p.m. at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Avenue, Akron, with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating. Burial following at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Monday October 20th, 5 to 7 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the church.
