Marian Rose Kern

Marian Rose (Longstreth) (May) Kern, age 84, died peacefully at home on January 15, 2022. 

Marian, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was married to Thomas May for almost 40 years and Leon Kern for 22 years. She was born on April 25, 1937 to Richard and Clara Longstreth of Akron, OH and attended St. Matthew Catholic School and Akron Ellet High School. Marian was an especially charitable woman who spent her life not only caring for her 5 children, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, but was also deeply involved in many charities including Catholic Services, Christ Child Society, American Red Cross, and Lions Clubs International. Marian invited into her home and provided respite for many family members and friends. She had a special love of babies and after her own were grown, she fostered 28 more! 

Marian leaves behind husband, Leon Kern of Hardeeville, SC; children, Edward May (Joanne) of Reed Point, MT; Nancy Fannin (Dave) of Strongsville, OH; Debra Stewart (Doug) of Medina, OH; Teresa Keckler of Naperville, IL; Julia Hoenig (Steve) of Columbus, OH; step-daughter, LaDonna Landers of Alva, OK; step-son, Darrel Kern (Paula) of Oklahoma City, OK; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marie Langford, Edna Glinsky (Ray), Cletus Longstreth, Bob Longstreth (Kathy); brother-in-law, Clarence May; sister-in-law, Patti May; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marian was preceded in death by her first husband Thomas May, and her siblings Helen Bear, Jim Longstreth, Jack Longstreth, Ralph Longstreth, Fred Longstreth, and Dorothy Keathley. 

Calling hours and funeral Mass will be held at Nativity of The Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Road, Akron, OH, on January 25, 2022. Calling hours will be held from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m., with the Mass immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron, Ohio.
