Mary C. (Lloyd) Gallagher

Mary C. (Lloyd) Gallagher, 83, of Mogadore, passed away July 22, 2012.

She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio and graduated from Harbor High School. Mary was a reporter with the Record Courier, retiring after 20 years and was a member of the Ohio Newspaper Women’s Association and Ohio Press Women. She received numerous awards from these organizations in writing and photography and was inducted into Theta Sigma Phi. Mary was also a charter member of Mogadore’s Business and Professional Woman. This newswoman was also active in the local community of Mogadore. As a civic leader, she worked in the development of the Mogadore Library, and was one of the charter members. Mary is a past secretary of the Mogadore Parent Teacher Associating and was instrumental in having the Curtis Sharp Memorial erected to Mogadore’s war hero. She received the Mogadore Jaycee Service Award and several VFW Post #8487 Publicity Awards. Mary also served as a den mother for the Buckeye Council of Boy Scouts. Mary Gallagher loved her husband, the family gatherings, laughter and music in her home. Ashtabula was her homeport. She loved to watch the waves, the ships, and the sunsets.

Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie Rose Lloyd; sister, Patricia; and brothers, Donald, Paul and David. She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Gallagher; sons, Tim (Sandi), Michael, and Chris (Elsie) Gallagher; grandchildren, Angela, Shawn, Jennifer, Nicholas, Brian, Anna, Joey and Kayla; great grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Shawn, Marcus, Marcelo and Nolan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 12 noon at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father Michael Williamson celebrating. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call 10:00-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue, Mogadore, Ohio 44260. Should friends desire, donations may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church or Mogadore Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
