Michael Patrick Jones of Canton, Ohio, passed away on September 25. He was 67 years old.
Michael was born on September 30, 1957 in Butler, Pennsylvania, to John and Grace Jones. He attended St. Joseph School and Waterloo High School. After serving in the U.S.Army, Michael worked in a variety of fields, including the rubber and machine industries in Ravenna. His favorite position was working in security at Congress Lake Country Club where friendship and conversations with members brought him much happiness.
Michael married and had two children: Sara Blake (Matt) of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Jarred Jones of Northern Virginia. He enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes with his kids, especially if they included onions. Michael dearly loved his children and was the proud grandfather of Viah and Milyn Blake. He delighted in his granddaughters and loved sharing stories and photos of them as they grew.
Although he lived most of his life in Ohio following his family’s move, Michael remained a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He could be counted on to know the players and team statistics and relished their success over their Ohio rivals. Throughout his life, he remained curious about all things and liked surprising his family with interesting facts about how things were made, worked or lived. He loved classic rock music, studying and tinkering with machines, and building things. Michael also enjoyed visiting his relatives in Pennsylvania and treasured happy times spent with aunts, uncles, cousins and his many nieces and nephews. He rarely said “goodbye,” but rather “God bless you, love you much.” He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents John J. Jones and Grace T. Klein, and step-father George F. Klein. He is survived by his children and granddaughters, as well as his siblings: Matthew (Paula) Jones of Travelers Rest, SC, Kathleen Jones of Hartville, OH, Joy (Kenny) Gerhartinger of Rootstown, OH, Mary (Sean) Kelly of New Wilmington, PA, Patricia (John) Crum of Wooster, OH, and Joan (Tom) Godfrey of Lexington, VA.
Friends and family will be received Friday, October 3, from 10-11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd. Mogadore, OH 44260. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am with Father Kevin Bertleff presiding. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery following the mass.
