Michaela Jo Gill

d. June 24, 2025

New Franklin

Michaela Jo Gill, age 37, passed away suddenly in Akron, Ohio on June 24, 2025 after years of battling a rare illness.

Michaela was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. At the age of 6 she moved to Akron, where she attended elementary school, and later moved to Canal Fulton to attend junior high and high school. She continued her education, attaining her Associates Degree in Medical Assisting.

As a medical assistant, phlebotomist, and office manager, she touched the lives of countless individuals with her care and expertise. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her professional role as she lived her life centered around her sobriety, frequently attending meetings and volunteering at St. Joseph's in Massillon, amongst many others.

Michaela suffered from a rare brain disease, shared by only 3 other people in the world. Her faith, accompanied by her love for her family, and the strength of her Memaw; gave her 10 more years than the doctors believed was possible.

Michaela’s adventurous nature and creative spirit fueled her love of travel, especially on a Harley Davidson. She always loved and surrounded herself with music, whether she was singing, dancing, or just listening. She loved watching football, whether she was cheering on The Bengals or The Massillon Tigers. She had a love for animals, especially her dogs, Aries and Kiia. Above all, she enjoyed making memories with her friends and family.

She is survived by her children, Gracie and Austin Gill, mother Phyllis Bennett, father Michael R. Gill (Kimberly), brothers Gunn Bennett, Michael Gill, and Chase Gill, sister Zoe Gill. Also left to mourn this devastating loss are her grandparents Joe Golden (Barbara), Raymond Gill (Jeannie), and Grant and Sue Bennett, as well as her uncles Harvey Golden (Bridgett), Bob Bennett (Gina), Steve Bennett (Jaimie), her aunt Missy Gill, partner Stephen Long, and too many other friends and family members to mention. Michaela was preceded in death by her grandmother Joyce Adkins (Garland), grandmother Anna Golden, and stepfather Michael Bennett.

Michaela's legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will continue to thrive through her family and all who were blessed to know her.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday, July 1st from 1 to 3pm and 5 to 7pm at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. Funeral service will begin at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
