Heaven gained the strongest angel on September 5th when Robert Dishman, 94 of Akron Ohio, went home to be with the Lord and reunite with his loving wife.
Robert was born December 3, 1928 to Mae and E.M. Dishman in Livingston Tennessee. Always the hard worker, Robert could be found working in the saw mill for 2 dollars a day or running a moonshine still up in the mountains. Robert came to Ohio in 1952 to provide a better life for his wife and children. He retired from Springfield Local Schools after 39 years as a custodian. After retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper and custodian at North Springfield Presbyterian Church for another 36 years. Throughout his full-time jobs, he also worked at Mayfair Country Club and Child Guidance Center.
Robert always made everyone feel welcome. If you entered his house, you were always family and you never left feeling hungry. He loved playing and singing to music he played on his French harp, banjo, and guitar. He loved sharing stories from his life with his loved ones. His favorite past time was sitting on his lawn mower mowing grass. Anyone’s grass.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Geneva; his parents, Mae and E.M.; his son, Jerry; and grandson Clifton. He is the last survivor of 10 children, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. He leaves behind his children, Terry (Karen) Dishman, Jane Dishman, Judy (Clifton) Cutlip, and Rita (Donald) Mitter; his grandchildren: Michelle, Eric, Carrie, Robbie, Holly, Nathan, Jered, Adam, and Megan; his 13 great-grandchildren and his 8 great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, September 12th from 5 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, September 13th from 10 to 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 13th at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Hillside Memorial Park. There will be a time of fellowship and food following interment at Calvary Temple, 3045 Albrecht Ave. Akron, OH 44312.
The Dishman family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Traditions Health Hospice Care and Summa Akron City Acute Palliative Care Unit for the compassionate care you provided to Geneva and Robert Dishman.
