Robert E. Tompkins

March 12, 1953 — February 3, 2021

Robert E. Tompkins Jr., age 67, passed away on February 3, 2021. Born in Akron, he was a life resident of Mogadore, graduating from Mogadore High School in 1971. Robert was the oldest grandson of John and Edna Murphy. While in high school, he excelled in multiple sports and was All-State football and state runner up in wrestling. He also wrestled while attending the University of Akron. Robert started working at Goodyear Tire & Rubber at the young age of 16, and retired after 35 years of service. While employed there he participated in multiple alumni sports, including the Goodyear Wingfoots. He went on to work at BWX Technologies in Barberton for 16 years, where he was accounts payable supervisor and unofficially the “jack of all trades”. He truly loved his job and all of his co-workers. Robert was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, Mogadore Moose and the Mogadore Alumni Association. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating and waterskiing on Lake Milton. Robert loved his family, his music, concerts, playing the air guitar, and vacations to Myrtle Beach with the “Murphy Clan”. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed his Thursday and Friday night golf leagues, and coaching football at Field and Mogadore, where he was loved and like a Dad to many of his young athletes. Most recently, he became involved in playing pickleball and was hoping to start a pickleball league in Mogadore at Lion’s Park. Above all, Robert loved spending time with his family and grandkids. He was a loving husband, father, brother and Pappy. He loved life so much and was always the life of the party. He made everyone he knew feel special and like family, and he did not know a stranger. Robert will be deeply missed and he touched many lives, which is evident in all the support and love given to his family during this difficult time. Preceded in death by his parents, Patsy Ruth Tompkins (Murphy) and Robert Eugene Tompkins Sr.; father-in-law, Omer Emerick; and niece, Michelle Soles, Robert is survived by his loving wife of 16-1/2 years, Sandi Tompkins; sons, Robert D. Tompkins (Briana), Bryan G. Tompkins (Georgeanne) and Ray Barry III; daughter, Roxanne S. McKinley (Jerimie); grandchildren, Xzandria, Garrett, Bailey, Kayla, Jonathon, Gunnar, Hayden, Braedyn and Kyler; great-grandchildren, Quinn and Amara; brothers, John Tompkins Sr. and George Tompkins (Patricia); sister, Karen Fuhrman (Tom); and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, February 7th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. at the Hopkins Lawver MOGADORE Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), Mogadore, Ohio 44260. Please make sure to observe masks and social distancing for the safety of all attending. Private services will be held for the family.
