Roger H. Bauhart, aged 99, master brick mason, loving family man, and all-around Superman passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026.
He graduated from Ellet High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was on the first ship out of San Diego to Japan during peacetime. After the service, he worked in Arizona and eventually hitchhiked to Ohio and met the love of his life, Betty Lou Hill.
Roger was a hardworking man, laying brick and stone his entire life as both a general contractor and member of Local #7 Bricklayers for 35 years. He laid his last field stone at the age of 93, making the pillars at his daughter’s house. Roger was a member of St. Matthews Parish, Knights of Columbus, and St. Vincent de Paul. He enjoyed woodworking, college football, and could often be found working on the farm with his daughter Jeanne – milling wood and planting trees. He was active up until the end, designing and building wooden stools for each grandchild for Christmas 2025.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Ralph Bauhart; sister, Janet VanFossen; daughters, Rebecca (Sandy) and Susan; and grandson, Richie Hora. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Betty (Hill) Bauhart; daughters, Jeanne, Kathy (Rich) Hora, Mary Beth (Gary) Pelc; and adopted daughters, Renee DeMaio and Lori Vickery; grandchildren, Roger Todd Hora; Justin and Gillian Pelc; Jeff and Garrett Bauhart.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, January 20, from 9:30am to 10:30am at St. Matthew Parish, 2603 Benton Ave.,Akron, OH 44312. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30am with burial to follow at Holy Cross. Memorials may be made to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, 350 Opportunity Parkway, Akron, OH 44307.
