Raised on Pioneer St. in Goodyear Heights, Shirley Carr, embodied that trailblazing spirit throughout her life, living by the motto, “just keep going.” Married to her husband, Kenneth, for 67 plus years, together they raised two sons, Scott and David, served their Lord together at First E.C. Church, and created beauty with flowers, paints, ceramics, leather, and wood. They transformed their home of 64 years into a life-giving place of laughter, healing, serving, and loving. Shirley became one of First National Bank’s first women branch managers, rising up through the ranks after being initially hired as a bookkeeper. But her heart was in serving. The family joke was never to tell Shirley you liked something because she would either give it to you or make you three of your own. She taught the Bible, sang in the choir, and did any small thing that needed done. She never stopped learning and growing.
Shirley is survived by her husband, sons, daughters-in-law Beth and Caren, grandchildren Andrew (wife Amber), Joshua, Casandra (husband Samuel) Mawanda, Jessica (husband Joshua) Jones, Caleb (wife Sarah), and Annette (husband Micah) Ridenour, and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 24th, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91) Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312.
