On January 20, 2023, Steven Lee Smyers (age 71) passed away peacefully at home in the loving presence of his wife (Rita), son (Charlie), and nephew (Jeff). His bright smiles, hearty chuckles, endearing winks, and John Wayne persona will be sorely missed by friends and family, especially his wife, Rita; children, Charlie (Debbie) Smyers, Chad (Lisa) Arfons, Suzanne Morris, and Presian (Brad) Burroughs; grandchildren, Juliette, Seth, Kensington, John, Chris, Justus, Jack, and Makaria; and nephews, Mark Smyers and Jeff (Susan) Smyers.
The son of Charles V. Smyers (d. 1969) and Emogene Sumpter Smyers (d. 2004) and younger brother to Ed (d. 2003) and Mike (d. 2006), Steve was born in Akron on March 27, 1951. He remained in the Akron-Canton area throughout his life and devoted much of his time and entrepreneurial talent to establishing and growing a successful tool and die business. Meanwhile, Steve “relaxed” by caring for horses, dairy cattle, and beef cattle and farming atop John Deere tractors. When not ensuring that all work was done and everyone generously cared for, Steve enjoyed walking along the beach with his loved ones, soaking up the warm rays of Florida sun, and watching Westerns.
We would like to thank Dr. Mark Smith and caregivers Tava Royston, Melissa Carrick, Yvonne Boreman and Liz Borsellino for the loving care that they provided Steve.
